I thought I'd make a post about this since it applies to a lot of us and I think it royally sucks.
Well, the US Post Office increased their rates today. That's fine, whatever, they want more money.
They completely went overboard though with their new policies.
Domestic:
Things now cost more based on size. That means anything thicker than 1/4" is considered a parcel and subject to a higher fee. So pretty much all deco
packages now sent within the USA will cost an addition $.50 on top of the rate increase.
I found that for packages under 1 pound the price difference was as high at $1 more than the old rates.
International:
This is where things went to shit.
They got rid of surface economy mail. You can only mail things air now.
They now have Priority Mail International and First Class International. The First Class international costs the same at Air Mail used to cost + the
rate increase. The Priority Mail International costs about as much as Express Mail used to cost. (Express Mail went up too). The main problem is the
Priority Mail international has the delivery time of the old Air Mail tables while the new First Class International has NO DELIVERY TIME TABLE.
Meaning, it's like economy just a little faster. Except we're paying a shitload.
They got rid of global priority flat rate envelopes. There's a new flat rate envelope that is twice the cost of what the old
envelopes were.
And of course the rates went up.
The cost of an 8 ounce parcel... the average weight of my packages overseas now costs $7.20. It used to cost $6.40 or if it fit into a flat rate
envelope like $5.
This sucks. It's already majorly effecting Phoophie because it broke my shopping cart and I'm having to seriously rethink who I want to swap with
oversees and how much I can send them.
Crap.
Expensive international shipping has reduced my deco swapping as
well... I wonder when they'll make e-mail cost something.
Well, the US seems to have finally caught up to Canada for its sucky rates. Those are basically the same rules and rates we've been paying since last years, from what I have read. It royally bites.
I spent $34 at the post office today on 5 packages, and am now fully depressed. I think I'm going to have to cut back on my international swapping
with really sucks the big one.
Blah.
That's fucking mad.
